The bathroom can be one of the most frustrating rooms in the house to paint. It is a smaller area and there is a lot of prep work to do. Larger rooms can seem much more satisfying to paint since large wall areas can be covered in a few minutes. In the bathroom, you?ll have to spend a lot of time focusing on working around the fixtures, the faucets, the door knobs and anything that may be hanging on the wall.
Here are the steps you should follow to make sure that all the effort you put into painting your bathroom translates into a job well done.
1. Sand down any rough areas and clean all of the walls. You may be surprised to find out how much grime and dirt has accumulated at the top of the walls and behind the fixtures.
2. Tape off the small things that you don?t want to have painted such as the faucets, door knobs, toilet roll dispensers, towel racks etc. Arrange tarps over the bathtub, vanity, toilet and the floor.
3. Start by painting a small area and then letting it dry before continuing on. Colors can appear differently when applied to a bathroom wall since it is a confined space with a lot of lighting. Once the paint is dry you?ll know for sure whether you can live with the color of paint you picked out and can then continue painting.
4. Bathrooms are high-traffic areas and instead of double coating the walls it would be a better idea to put a third layer of paint down. The walls are also exposed to a lot of humidity and this third coat of paint gives extra protection against these bathroom elements.
5. Once you have completed all of the painting remove the tarps and the tape. Focus on removing the tape extra carefully so as to not peel off any of the paint. If it becomes a problem, use an exacto knife to help separate the paint from the tape.
As long as you remember to protect the door knobs, faucets and all of the other small knickknacks in the bathroom, you won?t have any extra clean up to do. You can sit back, relax and enjoy your results. It is quite an accomplishment painting a bathroom and you managed to get it done!
